The next South African general election will be held on a date in April–July 2014 to elect a new National Assembly, as well as new provincial legislatures in each province.

When we voted in the historic first democratic election in 1994, we were excited because we were free to choose our own government and leaders. We thought of the changes that our votes would immediately bring. We did again in 1999 a few more times thereafter.

The IEC (Independent Electoral Commission)

The Independent Electoral Commission is a permanent body created by the constitution to promote and safeguard representative democracy in South Africa.
